Thumb sucking is not a simple habit. Affected children have been accustomed to thumb sucking since early childhood and strongly associate it with feelings of comfort and relaxation.
The need to suck on a thumb can therefore be very strong. However, the child’s brain is extremely capable of learning and can quickly learn new strategies for calming down. The prerequisite, however, is that the old habit is consistently no longer practiced.
The DAUMENHELD was specially developed to help children stop thumb sucking. The hand can still be used without restrictions, even the thumb can still end up in the mouth. But due to the special shape, sucking, and especially the build-up of negative pressure in the oral cavity, is prevented.
This allows the habit to be overcome in a short time. Typically, 3-6 days are enough to overcome the habit. In order for the new habit to stabilize, the therapy must be carried out for a complete 4 weeks.

We are parents of children who have sucked their thumbs. Despite many ideas and support, our eldest daughter was unable to stop thumb sucking for a long time. We were living abroad at the time and came across the THUMB HERO more or less by chance. Initially, we had some difficulty getting used to the idea that our daughter should wear a silicone cover on her thumb day and night. However, as we had already tried everything and were aware of the negative consequences of prolonged thumb sucking, we took the plunge and tried the DAUMENHELD. When weaning was actually successful, we were thrilled. So we were able to approach the matter ourselves with our second child with a lot of background knowledge, self-confidence and a clear plan for preparation and weaning. And here, too, the breakthrough came with the DAUMENHELD
At that time, however, the DAUMENHELD was neither available nor known in Germany. Because we are really convinced that it can help many children, we decided to import and sell it. Helping other parents and children deal with thumb sucking has become a project close to our hearts. So, as our first project on the subject of thumb sucking, we founded daumenkinder.com, where you can find lots of help, tips and tricks on the subject of thumb sucking and weaning. Later, the children’s book “Anna and Dedo – A thumb dares to come out” and the distribution of the DAUMENHELD were added.

The DAUMENHELD Standard is available in two sizes. Small for children from 1-3 years and large for children from 3-7 years. However, age is only a rough guide. You can find the exact size details on the pictures below.
The diameter of the thumb is best measured with a thread or string. It is absolutely fine if the thumb protrudes from the top of the DAUMENHELD. If your child is between the two sizes, we recommend the large version.
